Unlimited Data Speed Throttles & Fair Usage Policies (FUP)
Every telecom operator applies network management rules. Here is the exact breakdown of how unlimited data providers handle high-speed buckets, speed reductions, and hotspot tethering in Turkey:
| Provider | Network (Turkey) | Fair Use Policy (FUP) | Throttled Speed | Hotspot Tethering | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holafly | Türk Telekom (4G LTE) | Uncapped volume under regular use; throttles during peak congestion after heavy daily transfers (>3–5 GB/day) | ~5 Mbps | Blocked ✗ | Solo travellers wanting zero data monitoring on a single phone |
| Saily | Turkcell (4G/LTE) | High-speed daily priority allocation, soft throttling during extreme continuous downloads | ~1 Mbps | Allowed ✓ | Travellers needing to share hotspot with a partner or laptop on Turkcell |
| Yesim | Turkcell + Vodafone TR | 24-hour daily unlimited cycles; high-speed allowance resets every midnight UTC | ~1–2 Mbps | Allowed ✓ | Flexible 1-day to 30-day trips requiring multi-network redundancy |
| GigSky | Turkcell + Vodafone TR | Daily high-speed pass; standard cellular management applies during network congestion | ~1 Mbps | Allowed ✓ | Short single-day city layovers in Istanbul |
💡 Real-World Speed Context: At 5 Mbps, you can still stream 720p HD video on YouTube/Netflix, make crystal-clear WhatsApp video calls, and use Instagram stories without stutter. At 1 Mbps, Google Maps navigation, Uber/BiTaksi, messaging, and web browsing continue working smoothly, but high-resolution video will drop to 480p standard definition.
Do you actually need unlimited?
Unlimited sounds appealing, but it's usually more expensive per GB than a well-chosen capped plan. Here's a quick guide:

Maps + messaging only1–3GB plan
Social media + browsing5–10GB plan
Streaming + video calls10–20GB plan

Compare all providersCalculate my data needsUnlimited Turkey eSIM — FAQs
Most unlimited Turkey eSIMs are truly unlimited for data, but some providers apply fair-use throttling after a certain threshold (usually 1–2GB/day). Holafly, for example, has a fair-use policy that may reduce speeds after heavy use. Always check the provider's terms before buying.
This varies by provider. Holafly's unlimited Turkey plan does NOT allow hotspot tethering. Saily's unlimited plan DOES allow hotspot. If you need to share data with a laptop or tablet, make sure to choose a provider that explicitly permits tethering.
For most UK travellers on a 1-week holiday, a capped plan of 5–10GB is cheaper and sufficient. Unlimited plans make sense if you stream video daily, make frequent video calls, or simply don't want to track your usage. Use our data calculator to check whether you actually need unlimited.
Coverage depends on which Turkish network the provider uses. Holafly and Saily both use Turkcell — Turkey's largest network. For maximum coverage in rural areas, consider a provider with multi-network access. Check the network details on each provider's page.
